MANILA -- Four police officers, who were caught drinking alcohol while on duty in Las Piñas City early Friday, are now in hot water.

Maj. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, head of National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) told Brig. Gen. Gerry Galvan, chief of the Internal Affairs Service (IAS) in National Capital Region (NCR) to file an administrative case against Patrolman Samuel Inoc and Corporals Alquin Orgen, Randy Danao and Robemar Abales, who were all assigned at the Las Piñas Police Station 6.

“The new RIAS (Regional IAS) head just assumed his post and I asked him to help me in the inspection and monitoring of the police and he did it,” Eleazar said.

Galvan, who did the random inspection, caught the policemen drinking alcohol around 2 a.m. at the checkpoint in a gasoline station on Alabang Zapote Road in Barangay Talon Uno.

Southern Police District (SPD) chief, Brig. Gen Nolasco Bathan, immediately relieved the four cops and their commander, Capt. Gladys Biare, from their posts.

Earlier, PNP Chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde has issued an order barring policemen from drinking alcoholic beverages in public places, as well as going to night clubs, gambling dens and other places devoted to vices.

The said violation, he said, is tantamount to grave misconduct, which is punishable by dismissal from the service. (PNA)
