BACOLOD CITY -- Operatives of Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) drug enforcement unit have seized PHP17.193 million worth of suspected shabu from June to August this year.

A report released by the BCPO on Friday showed 154.62 grams of the prohibited substance with a street value of PHP2.319 million were recovered in June.

In the same month, city police personnel conducted 60 operations and arrested 88 persons, and filed 112 cases.

Operations in the third week of June alone led to the recovery of PHP1-million worth of suspected shabu from eight suspects in three separate buy-bust operations.

In July, operatives confiscated 590.10 grams of shabu worth PHP7.081 million. During the period, 58 operations were conducted and 87 persons were arrested. A total of 116 cases were filed against those arrested.

Among the major hauls in July were PHP1.2 million worth of shabu recovered from 43-year-old Regina Oro and her 20-year-old son Sam Oro Aguirre at Purok Bayanihan, Barangay Banago.

Also, operatives seized a total of PHP5.062 million of the prohibited substance from four persons during a buy-bust in a residence at Barangay Alijis.

In August, a total of 694.41 grams of shabu were seized with a street value of PHP7.793 million. The illegal drugs were seized during 55 operations, which led to the arrest of 91 persons and the filing of 152 cases.

On August 20 alone, operatives confiscated PHP1.4 million worth of suspected shabu from suspect Maricar “Cecil” Chavez in a buy-bust at Barangay Tangub.

Col. Henry Biñas, city police director, said he has directed the operating units to intensify the campaign against prohibited drugs to minimize, if not eradicate, the supply in Bacolod.

The supply of shabu seized in the city in recent weeks is believed to have been intended for distribution during the MassKara Festival next month, the police earlier said. (PNA)
