ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Ten families displaced in the 21-day 2013 Zamboanga siege have demolished on Friday the temporary shelters they are occupying.

Ma. Socorro Rojas, City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) head, said Monday the temporary shelters that were demolished by their owners are located at the Masepla Transitory Site in Barangay Mampang, this city.

Rojas said the 10 families are temporarily housed with their relatives, adding they will be transferred soon to the housing project of the National Housing Authority (NHA) at the Vida Vista in Barangay Cabaluay.

Earlier, City Housing and Land Management chief Rodrigo Pagotaisidro said the NHA has offered the Vida Vista property, which has 100 housing units still unoccupied, since the lot in Barangay Rio Hondo, which had been identified as a relocation site, is still at the appraisal committee of the housing agency.

Rojas said they have provided food packs to the 10 families in exchange for the voluntary demolition of the temporary shelters.

The 10 families were among the more than 100,000 people who were displaced during the 21-day siege that broke out on November 9, 2013 when members of the Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) loyal to MNLF founder Nur Misuari laid siege to at least five coastal barangays in this city. (PNA)
