Maguindanao mayor succumbs to cancer

COTABATO CITY -- Mayor Ramdatu Angas of Sultan sa Barongis, Maguindanao has died from liver cancer on Sunday.

He was 52.

The mayor expired in his home in Barangay Poblacion, Sultan sa Barongis, according to relatives and friends.

“On behalf of the League of Municipalities of Maguindanao, we deeply mourn the death of our colleagues, Datu Ramdatu Angas, mayor of the municipality of Sultan sa Barongis, Maguindanao,” said Mayor Zamzamin Ampatuan of Rajah Buayan town, also in Maguindanao.

Ampatuan described Angas as a dedicated public servant, who always made sure that his constituents were properly served by the municipal government. He was laid to his final resting place at the family-owned farm in Sultan sa Barongis.


In a statement posted on the Sultan sa Barongis social media account, the local government employees said: “We love you very much, Mayor Ramdatu Angas.”

Maguindanao Governor Bai Meriam Sangki-Mangudadatu has expressed sadness over the untimely demise of Angas.

By rule of succession, Sultan sa Barongis Vice Mayor Al-Fizzar M. Angas, the mayor's uncle, will assume the mayoralty post. (PNA)
