8 nabbed in Cebu anti-drug operations

CEBU CITY -- Eight suspected drug traders were arrested on Monday night during police buy-bust operations in the southern town of Minglanilla, Cebu and in a village in this city that yielded almost PHP1-million worth of illegal drugs.

Operatives from the Provincial Intelligence Branch of the Cebu Provincial Police Office (PIB-CPPO) arrested Lito Labajo alias "Toper", 34, of Dumlog, Talisay City, listed as provincial-level high-value target (HVT) and subject of the operation in Calajoan village in Minglanilla.

Also arrested along with Labajo were Ian Cedrick Dabasol Fernan, 26, of Poblacion, Talisay, Cebu who is also listed as provincial-level HVT, Judy Cañizares Del Rosario, 38, of Dumlog, Talisay; Cleven Jedd Rubio Bracamonte, 28, of Poblacion, Talisay; Melvin Maglinte Matubay, 28, of Abucayan, Balamban; and Jean Claudette Basalo Las Piñas, 32, of Dumlog, Talisay.

Lt. Col. Marlu Conag, chief of PIB that also functions as Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU), said the operatives confiscated from Labajo’s group a large pack, three medium packs, and 13 small sachets of shabu weighing 24.48 grams with an estimated value of PHP166,464.

Conag said they also confiscated from Labajo’s group dried marijuana leaves weighing 180.11 grams estimated to value PHP18,011.

Meanwhile, members of the Criminal Intelligence Branch of the Cebu City Police Office (CIB-CCPO) arrested Jumar Abadiano Canoy, 25, a resident of Spolarium St., Barangay Duljo-Fatima here and considered by authorities as a regional-level high-value target.

In his report to CCPO, Maj. Randy Caballes, chief of CIB, said intelligence operatives from his unit conducted a buy-bust operation in Duljo-Fatima and confiscated illegal drugs worth PHP680,000.

All the suspects are now detained pending the formal filing of charges of violation of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 against them. (PNA)
