MANILA – Newly crowned Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Reinforced Conference champion Petro Gazz will wave the Philippine flag in the Taichung Bank International Women’s Invitational Volleyball Tournament in Taipei next week.

The Angels stunned pre-conference favorites Creamline Cool Smashers for their breakthrough PVL title and will be taking on two teams from host Chinese Taipei and one team each from China, Thailand, and Japan, which are all known for their volleyball dominance.

"Mataas talaga 'yung level ng competition (Level of competition is high)," coach Arnold Laniog said.

"Isa rin itong gauge para malaman din kung saan na kami as a team (This is a gauge for us to know how we are doing as a team)," team captain Chie Saet added.

Unlike in the PVL Reinforced Conference where imports Wilma Salas and Janisa Johnson took charge, Petro Gazz will be playing all-Filipino in the international competition.

Saet, the team's primary setter, will be joined by fellow setter Djanel Cheng, open spiker Paneng Mercado, middle blocker Jeanette Panaga, Cherry Nunag, and Jessey de Leon, opposite hitters Kai Baloaloa, Alyssa Layug, Jonah Sabete, and Jovielyn Prado; and liberos Rica Enclona and Cienne Cruz.

"Mas magiging deep 'yung mga relasyon ng team na ito at sana na maidala sa (Our relationship as a team would get deeper and we hope this would continue until the) second round [of PVL Open Conference eliminations] and hopefully into the semis," Laniog said. (PNA)
