LEGAZPI CITY -- About 2,600 field researchers of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in Bicol would be deployed in the six provinces of Bicol to identify and assess poor households in the region, an agency official said on Saturday.

In an interview, Jesseshan Marbella-Aycocho said field personnel are now undergoing training as fieldwork would start in October.

For the third poor household assessment, the agency targets 1.1 million households in Bicol out of the 16.1 million nationwide.

Aycocho said in 2015, the second assessment indicated that out of the 1.08 million Bicol households surveyed, 372,451 households were identified as poor.

The survey will cover thousands of villages in the six provinces in the Bicol Region-- Albay, Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Sorsogon, and the island-provinces of Catanduanes and Masbate.

The third household assessment that will end in December is under the agency’s "Listahanan Program", an information management system that identifies who and where the poor are in the country.

It serves as a reference by different agencies in the implementation of their programs and services for the poor and marginalized sectors. (PNA)
