Pagadian City wins Zambo Sur's Megayon Festival

PAGADIAN CITY, Zamboanga del Sur -- This city has bagged the overall championship in this year’s Megayon Festival, which highlights the 67th anniversary Tuesday of this province.

Jeesrel Himang, provincial information officer, disclosed Wednesday that this city took home PHP525,000 cash prize and PHP5 million worth of projects.

Himang said the towns of Margosatubig and Josefina won second and third place, respectively, and received PHP3 million worth of projects each.

The festival’s competition included street dance, float parade, and focal presentation from the Moro, the Subanen, as well as Local Settlers.

Himang said this city topped the street dance competition with the towns of Margosatubig and Josefina ranked as second and third place, respectively.   

Margosatubig dominated the float parade competition and bagged the PHP100,000 cash prize. Pagadian City landed second with PHP75,000 cash prize and Lapuyan, third with PHP50,000 cash prize.

Himang also bared that this province’s 26 towns and one city were divided into three focal presentations, namely the Subanen, Moro, and Local Settlers’ categories with cash prizes of PHP450,000, PHP300,000, and PHP200,000 for the first, second, and third place, respectively.

The town of Josefina won the first place in the Subanen category, with the municipalities of Lapuyan and Vincenzo Sagun as the second and third place winners, respectively.

The municipality of Margosatubig bagged the first place in the Moro category while the towns of Kumalarang and Tukuran landed second and third place, respectively.

The city of Pagadian won first place in the Local Settler’s category, followed by the town of Mahayag and third, Tambulig municipality.

This year’s anniversary celebration is anchored on the theme “hawak kamay tungo sa tagumpay: Iangat ang bawat Zambosurian.” (PNA)
