MANILA -- The Bureau of Immigration (BI) on Tuesday announced it is set to deport an American and a Chinese who are wanted by authorities for serious offenses in their country.
BI Commissioner Jaime Morente identified them as American Arthur Mark Curts, 61, and Chinese national Dong Jinxi, 66. Both were recently arrested in Cebu province.
“They will be deported for being undesirable aliens and for being undocumented as their passports were already cancelled by their respective governments,” he said in a statement.
“We will also include them in our blacklist to prevent them from reentering the Philippines,” the BI chief added.
Operatives from the BI’s fugitive search unit (FSU) apprehended Dong in coordination with the Chinese Ministry of Security and the City Investigation and Detective Management Branch of the Mandaue City Police Office on September 26 inside a five-star hotel in Mandaue City.
The foreigner is wanted for smuggling and has a standing warrant of arrest issued by a Chinese court.
It was also learned that Dong was already issued a summary deportation order by the BI board of commissioners on April 26 this year.
On the other hand, the FSU arrested Curts in the town of Liloan last Sept. 21 in coordination with the US Diplomatic Security Service-Overseas Criminal Investigations and the Liloan Police Station.
An arrest warrant issued by a US district court in Florida against him on charges of theft of government funds and making a false statement.
Morente warned other foreign fugitives using the Philippines as a refuge to evade criminal prosecution in their homelands that they will be caught eventually.
“Do not use our country to evade justice. Sooner or later the long arm of the law will catch you and you will be sent back to your countries to face your crimes,” he said. (PNA)
