MANILA -- Authorities arrested two drug peddlers and seized from them a sub-machine gun and several rounds of ammunition in an operation in Quezon City on Tuesday.

Col. Ronnie Montejo, Quezon City Police District (QCPD) acting director, identified the suspects as Reygie Chavez and Hitomi Bueza, 26, both residents of Barangay Baesa.

The two suspects were arrested by officers from the Masambong Police Station in front of a restaurant along Congressional Avenue in Barangay Ramon Magsaysay around 9 p.m. on Tuesday.

Undercover operatives set a buy-bust against the suspects who arrived in a Nissan Almera car with conduction sticker OW2709. They were immediately arrested after operatives received the contraband.

Seized from the suspects were eight sachets of shabu worth PHP68,000, a ziplock sachet of dried marijuana leaves, an unlicensed sub-machine gun with 19 rounds of ammunition, one 9-inch gun silencer, two cellphones, three embossed plate numbers and the buy-bust money.

Montejo said Chavez is included on the Philippine National Police-Directorate for Intelligence (PNP-DI) watch list. He said that the firearm was given to him in exchange for drugs.

In a separate operation, a 16-year-old male student onboard a motorcycle yielded marijuana after he was flagged down by a police officer for not wearing a helmet along Tandang Sora Ave. in Barangay Pasong Tamo around 6:50 p.m. Tuesday.

Pat. Casey Austria said the student failed to present official receipt and certificate of registration of his Yamaha Mio motorcycle with plate number 5578UF.

When frisked, he yielded a half-block of dried marijuana fruiting tops worth PHP10,000 and a cellphone.

The suspects were charged with violation of RA 9165 or The Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, while the confiscated illegal drugs were turned over to the QCPD Crime Laboratory Office. (PNA)
