COTABATO CITY -- A high-ranking police official in Marawi City, Lanao del Sur is now in hot water following the discovery of an alleged stolen sports utility vehicle (SUV) in his possession, a regional highway patrol official said Monday.

Col. Hesran Mojica, director of the Regional Highway Patrol Unit - Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (RHPU-BARMM), said they recovered Monday a white Ford Everest SUV, with temporary conduction sticker IK43400.

The vehicle has been reported stolen from its owner in Sta. Ana, Manila.

“We were surprised to have found the vehicle reportedly stolen parked outside the Marawi police station,” Mojica said in an interview by Brigada News FM radio station here.

He said they were surprised to discover that the “hot car” user was a high-ranking police official, identified as Capt. Santos Monares, the deputy police chief of Marawi City.

Monares could not present proper documents for the SUV vehicle, which he claimed to have bought from a certain Capt. Cartajena, presently assigned with the Police Regional Office 10 in Cagayan de Oro City.

Mojica said Monares is currently facing charges for violation of RA 10883 (New Anti-Carnapping Act of 2016) in connection with the case.

RHPU-BARMM has also impounded the vehicle at its headquarters in Pedro Colina Hill in this city. (PNA)
