Tinampay to fight Morgan for WBU welterweight title Oct. 19

DAVAO CITY -- Nelson Tinampay of Bohol will try to wrest the belt from newly-crowned World Boxing Union welterweight champion Bowyn 'BoMan' Morgan of New Zealand on Oct. 19 at the Christchurch in New Zealand.

The 26-year-old Tinampay won by a split decision over Boyce 'Astro Boy' Sultan of Cebu last July 26 in Bohol.

He earlier lost to Rodel Wenceslao of Leyte by a retirement in the 2nd round in the battle for the vacant Visayas Professional Boxing Association title last May 23, 2018 also in Bohol.

Tinampay has 14 wins with six knockouts against seven defeats and one draw, while Morgan has 20 wins with six knockouts against one loss.

The 30-year old Morgan defeated another Filipino Jack 'The Assassin' Asis, now a resident of Australia, to win the vacant WBU welterweight title last May 18, 2019 in Christchurch.

Morgan also earlier beat Luke Woods of Australia by a unanimous decision to win the International Boxing Organization Asia Pacific welterweight title last 2018 in Christchurch.
