MANILA – All public school teachers in Taguig City will soon enjoy a place where they can get a reprieve from their immense workload right within their workplace.

This, after Taguig City Mayor Lino Cayetano announced on Thursday a proposal to build a teachers’ lounge in every public elementary and high school in the city within three years.

“We recognize that our self-sacrificing teachers need a reprieve from their immense workload,” Cayetano said during the inauguration of Taguig’s first-ever teachers’ lounge at the EM’s Signal Village Elementary School in Central Signal on Thursday.

The fully air-conditioned facility, he said, will have entertainment area, pantry, lounge and conference room.

“The teachers’ lounge is a space where they can eat, unwind, bond with each other and conduct meetings. Above all else, it will raise their morale, help them relax, promote dialogue and build a sense of belonging,” he added.

The city will soon inaugurate the second teacher’s lounge at the Dr. Artemio Natividad Elementary School in Ususan.

Cayetano said all other public schools will start the construction of their respective teachers’ lounge in January next year.

Taguig City has more than 4,100 teachers working in 26 public elementary schools and 10 high schools.

“Our buildings have to be relevant, resilient and responsive, yes. But we often forget to include our teachers. They have to always be an integral part of our plans if we are to further improve education in Taguig,” Cayetano said.
