CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao -- Military authorities here announced the surrender of two communist rebels and the recovery of firearms in Sultan Kudarat on Friday.

The rebels were identified as Josie Madagpog, 41, and his younger brother Jessie, 31, both of Sitio Tower, Barangay Kiponget, Palimbang, Sultan Kudarat.

They voluntarily surrendered to officials of the Army’s 37th Infantry Battalion (IB) at its base in Barangay Baranayan in Palimbang, and handed over .30 caliber Garand rifle with two magazine clips and 15 rounds of ammunition, and one 12-gauge shotgun with a bandolier and two rounds of ammunition.

“They were both listed in our periodic status report as members of the West Daguma Front of the New People's Army (NPA),” Col. Wilbur C. Mamawag, commander of the Army’s 603rd Infantry Brigade, said in a statement.

Meanwhile, elements of the Army’s 40IB on Friday seized a caliber .45 pistol from a certain Manap Abdullah in Barangay Malingon, President Quirino, Sultan Kudarat while on patrol.

Abdullah was undergoing investigation at the Pres. Quirino town police office.

In his report, the Army’s 6th Infantry Division commander, Maj. Gen. Diosdado Carreon, said another unit of the 40IB, found a caliber .38 revolver and a caliber .45 pistol kept beside a Balete tree in Barangay Malingon.

Carreon said the operation was launched in response to the series of shooting incidents in Pres. Quirino.
