ZAMBOANGA CITY--Anti-narcotics agents arrested a barangay official tagged as a high-value target drug personality during an anti-drug operation in the Zamboanga Sibugay town of Kabasalan, an official said Friday.

Lawyer Jacqueline de Guzman, Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) regional director, identified the arrested suspect as Saripol Amil, 32, a councilor in Barangay Canacan, Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

De Guzman said Amil was arrested in a buy-bust operation around 1:45 p.m. Wednesday along the national road in Barangay F.L. Peña, Kabasalan municipality.

De Guzman said Amil was arrested after he sold a sachet of suspected shabu to an undercover PDEA agent in exchange for PHP500.

Amil yielded some five grams of suspected shabu packed in six heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets with an estimated value of PHP34,000, a motorcycle, and PHP500 marked money, she said.

The PDEA official said the drug bust was carried out by a joint team of PDEA agents and policemen following surveillance on the illegal drug trade of the suspect.

Cases for violation of Sections 5 and 11, Article II of Republic Act 9165 are set to be filed against Amil, she said. (PNA)
