LINGAYEN, Pangasinan -- Some 1,497 rice farmers from different municipalities of Pangasinan have received their cash cards containing PHP15,000 loan through the Survival and Recovery Assistance (SURE Aid) program of the Department of Agriculture (DA), Land Bank of the Philippines, and the Agricultural Credit Policy Council.

In her speech on Wednesday, provincial agriculturist Dalisay Moya said the farmers who got the assistance were initial beneficiaries in Pangasinan.

“During our deliberation, we recorded 5,000 farmers in the province who will receive SURE Aid loan program,” she said.

“This is just an initial assistance as the agriculture sector in the country faces many challenges so we hope this program will help you. The local government unit and the national government are working together to uplift economic condition of the agri-fisheries sector,” Moya added.

Filipina Monje, Landbank Northern and Central Luzon lending group senior vice president, said each farmer received cash card containing PHP15,000 loan without interest and collateral, payable in eight years with six-month grace period.

“DA launched this program in September to help the farmers against lower price of palay (rice) in the market. The amount can be used in their farming needs,” she said.

Monje also urged the farmers to avail of other loan programs of Landbank for them.

“We have other lending programs as we know SURE Aid might not be enough. This is with lowest interest and even the requirements were made simple and the process made easy for them,” she said. (PNA)
