MANILA -- Budget carrier Cebu Pacific (CEB) on Monday announced the opening of the ninth batch of Cadet Pilot Training Program, its "Study now, Pay later" program for aspiring pilots.

CEB is looking for 16 trainees for the its latest batch.

The program is open for both male and female Filipinos. They must be college graduates with at least 80 percent (or equivalent) in subjects related to Math, English and Physics.

Applicants should be English-proficient and are in good physical condition.
Interested individuals may apply online (https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/JWFMS5G) from November 4-13.

Passers of the online prescreening will undergo the next stages of selection process. CEB will finance the 52-week training program for successful applicants.

The training includes theory and education at the Flight Training Adelaide in Australia. Further, trainees will be trained for four weeks under the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines for them to get their pilot's license.

Guaranteed employment awaits successful trainees. They would reimburse the cost of the training program via salary deduction within a maximum of 10 years.

In previous interviews, CEB vice president for Flight Operations Samuel Avila said all that the carrier asks from the trainees is their commitment to work with CEB.

It's a good deal, he said, considering the high cost of pilot training.

For one to become a pilot, he or she would need to prepare PHP2 million to PHP3.8 million for a 12-month training program, according to Avila.

"It (pilot training) is a high-risk investment, since the training fees are high, yet there's no guarantee of employment," he said.

CEB launched the Cadet Pilot Training Program in 2017. The carrier has allotted USD25 million for this and has planned to run this program for at least five years. (PNA)
