8 dead, 9 hurt in CamSur road crash

LEGAZPI CITY -- Eight persons died while nine others were injured when a passenger bus collided with a passenger van and a motorized tricycle in Barangay San Vicente, Pamplona town in Camarines Sur on Wednesday night.

Maj. Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Police Regional Office-5 (Bicol) spokesperson, in an interview, said the JVR bus driver, Leonardo Camu, 52, of Malilipot, Albay is now in the custody of the Pamplona police station, undergoing investigation.

"The collision caused the instant death of the seven passengers and the van driver while injuring six van passengers and three passengers from the tricycle," Calubaquib said.

She said the driver could be charged with multiple homicide and serious physical injuries due to negligence.

Based on the initial report, the bus was negotiating a national road bound for Manila when it overtook and bumped the rear portion of the tricycle carrying three passengers.

While overtaking, the bus rammed the passenger van driven by Armani Calpe, 63, of Daet town.

All the wounded passengers were rushed by emergency team responders to the Bicol Medical Center and the Mother Seton Hospital in Naga City. (PNA)
