DIGOS CITY -- The People's Republic of China has sent a team to deliver truckloads of assistance to earthquake victims here through its consul-general on Friday.

Chinese Consul General Li Lin, accompanied by a delegation of Chinese volunteers, arrived with two 10-wheeler wing van trucks carrying more or less 4,000 packs of relief goods.

Mayor Josef Cagas received the assistance in a turnover rite at the Gallarde Hall, where the City Disaster Risk and Reduction Management Council (CDRRMC) command post is located.

Consul General Li said the cargo was part of the first batch of relief assistance from the Chinese government, and that another 4,000 packs of food items will be coming in on Saturday.

He said they are also willing to work with local officials in the rehabilitation of the city through the provision of medical services, potable water, and building of sewage facilities.

"We will try our best whatever we can to help the people of Digos City since we can see that local officials are very enthusiastic in helping the victims through efficient delivery of relief assistance, " Li said.

On the other hand, Cagas said the local government is now focusing on helping families who are currently living outside of their homes.

"They were really left behind in terms of providing relief assistance since the government was focused on 34 identified evacuation centers located all over the city. At this point, we will take care of them," Cagas said.

Cagas also thanked Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte for the fast delivery of relief assistance to the earthquake victims.

"I am expressing my thanks and gratitude to the benevolence extended to us by the people of Davao City through Mayor Inday Sarah Duterte," Cagas said. (PNA)
