LAOAG CITY -- A new entrant in the Philippine telecommunications industry wants to build a digital superhighway to provide high-speed internet connectivity via satellite technology in the entire province of Ilocos Norte covering 559 barangays in 21 towns and two cities.

In a Powerpoint presentation before members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan early this week, Roy Dantos, vice president for operations of PHSat Teleport based in Subic, Zambales, said they are offering fast and reliable Internet connectivity to the Ilocanos that operates on 1Gbps capacity.

With proposed funding of PHP256 million to cover the entire province, Dantos said the satellite technology can extend the signal through broadband wifi to create one single network for integrated services such as for civil defense, fire, traffic, police, and rapid disaster response, among others.

“For local government units, the technology also allows them to transfer files at high speed even in the remotest areas including the provisions of a filtered WiFi connection to schools and selected public areas in Ilocos Norte,” Dantos added.

Another feature is the so-called data analytics, which gathers pertinent information from users, that will be used for planning purposes.

Due to the current crawling internet connection in Ilocos Norte, the provincial government is currently studying the proposal of PHSat Teleport to improve its internet service.

According to Dantos, their company has partnered with an international communications company with an unmatched depth of experience to achieve affordable and efficient internet connectivity throughout the country.

“For now, the total cost of investment is negotiable,” Dantos said when asked by members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan. (PNA)
