DUMAGUETE CITY -- The Bureau of Customs sub-port of Dumaguete has breached the PHP4-billion mark, exceeding more than its target collection set for 2019.
Dumaguete Customs Collector Fe Lluelyn Toring said Friday the actual collection of her office from Jan. 1 to Dec. 6 is pegged at more than PHP4.583 billion.
This is 14.26 percent more than its target collection of PHP4.011 billion, or a difference of a little over PHP572 million, she said.
The BOC had previously set at the start of the year a target collection of PHP3.8 billion for the sub-port of Dumaguete but since July to October, the agency adjusted its target collections each month, Toring said.
The volume of importation of petroleum products and other items that have largely contributed to the positive gains of the BOC Dumaguete sub-port has helped it achieve its target, she said.
She also credited the increase in the collection to the implementation of Republic Act No. 10963 or the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Act which has raised the excise tax on fuel.
In the last few weeks of December, Toring said her office is expecting some PHP5-million in revenue earnings for yet another shipment of petroleum products from Filoil Energy Co. Inc. (Filoil).
When this happens, the Dumaguete sub-port will reach the PHP5-billion mark by the end of the year, Toring said.
The top importers that transacted with the BOC Dumaguete office and have largely contributed to its gains are Filoil, Wilmar Edible Oils Phils. Inc., and Pryce Gases Inc.
Other importers are Primary Trident Marine Solutions Inc., Industry Movers Corp., Concrete Solutions Inc., Premium Megastructures Inc., Union Galvasteel Corp., PhilCement Corp, and Jomalia Shipping Corp. (PNA)
