BALER, Aurora -- Damage to agriculture in areas affected by the rains dumped by Typhoon "Tisoy" (Kammuri) in this province has been initially estimated at PHP6.714 million.
Elson Amado Egargue, head of the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO), said Friday that although the province was not in the direct path of Tisoy, the continuous moderate to heavy rains caused flooding that affected the agricultural sector.
He said the extent of damage was initially estimated at PHP6,498,146 in terms of crops while in livestock was placed at PHP216,000
Dingalan town reported the biggest agricultural losses with PHP3.185 million in crops; followed by the capital town of Aurora (Baler) with PHP1,895,607 in crops; and Casiguran with PHP1,417,539 in crops and PHP216,000 in livestock.
He also said some 786 families or 2,696 individuals were brought to designated evacuation centers in the province during the height of the typhoon.
“The evacuees have already returned to their homes,” Egargue said.
Although floodwaters have gradually subsided in most parts of the province, he said there are still some areas under water due to the swelling of the rivers. (PNA)
