MANILA -- Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda will enhance bilateral cooperation between the Philippines and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) on quality assurance of greenhouse gas inventory and climate finance needs assessment.

This is among the main topics to be discussed in the scheduled bilateral meeting between Legarda, head of the Philippine Delegation, and (UNFCCC) Executive Secretary Patricia Espinosa on Friday at the sidelines of the 25th Session of the Conference of Parties (COP25) in Madrid, Spain.

Legarda said she would highlight matters relating to climate finance, especially on the replenishment of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the need for more readiness support facilities to access climate finance.

She is expecting to strengthen the collaboration between the Philippines and the UNFCCC Secretariat towards enhancing collective action and empowering country stakeholders to be part of urgent efforts in addressing the impacts of climate change.

Legarda, who is also a Commissioner of the Global Commission on Adaptation (GCA), would impart the commission’s flagship report, “Adapt Now: A Global Call for Leadership on Climate Resilience,” which cited findings that can contribute to ongoing climate talks, specifically on the need for scaled-up support for adaptation.
