TACLOBAN CITY -- The city council here approved on Wednesday the PHP60 million budget meant for the additional cash incentives of the city government workers and village officials this holiday season.

The amount was for the Christmas bonus of more than 2,000 regular and non-regular city hall employees and additional subsidy to the officials and workers of the city’s 138 villages.

Regular and casual employees will receive PHP40,000 and PHP25,000 each, respectively.

Contract of service and job order workers will get PHP6,000; village officials, health workers, nutrition scholars, service officers, and the City Volunteer Service Program will receive PHP2,000 each.

The fund was sourced from the savings of the city government under its maintenance and operating expenses.

During the special session on Wednesday, the council recognized the efforts of the employees here in delivering the basic government services to the communities.

Government Association of Tacloban Employees president Jun Cabondocan thanked the city council for the approval of the supplemental budget.

“We are happy and thankful to the city council that all employees will benefit from this incentive, not only the regular employees. We expect to receive this bonus before Christmas Day,” Conbondocan said.

Ofelia Caceres, 58, who has been working in the city government for 25 years said she will use the money to buy gifts for her children and food to prepare for the coming holidays.

Tacloban is the regional capital of Eastern Visayas.

It was converted into a highly urbanized city when its residents voted “Yes” in a plebiscite on Dec. 18, 2008. (PNA)
