BUTUAN CITY -- Police arrested a man wanted for rape over the weekend here, the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Caraga Region said.

In a statement on Sunday, Police Regional Office (PRO-13) director, Brig. Gen. Joselito T. Esquivel Jr. identified the wanted person as Zyrus Daal Orendain, 41, a resident of Barangay Libertad here.

Orendain is the main suspect in a rape case involving a minor in Barangay Libertad sometime in 2016, police said.

Esquivel said the suspect was arrested by the Regional Intelligence Division on Jan. 4 in Purok 6, Barangay 7, Buenavista, Agusan del Norte, through a warrant of arrest issued by a regional court in June 2016.

He said Orendain has been put under surveillance since November last year following information that he was staying at his relative’s residence in Cagayan de Oro City.

He said police received information that the suspect was about to visit his relatives in Buenavista town, resulting in his arrest.

“The successful arrest of the top most wanted person is attributed to the support and cooperation of the members of the community,” Esquivel said on Sunday. (PNA)
