ZAMBOANGA CITY -- The Regional Oversight Committee on Barangay Drug Clearing Program (BDCP) has declared four barangays as drug-cleared barangays in this southern port city.

Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-Region 9 (PDEA) Director Edgar Jubay on Monday identified the drug-cleared villages as Barangays Pasilmanta, Landang Laum, Tictapul, and Sibulao, all located in the east coast.

Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar on Friday signed the resolution of the Regional Oversight Committee on BDCP, where she is a member representing the local government unit, declaring the four barangays as drug-cleared.

Salazar likewise attested the Certificates of Declaration of Drug-Cleared of the four barangays, as validated by PDEA-9.

The four barangays are entitled to a PHP50,000 reward each from the local government as part of this city’s support to the anti-illegal drug campaign waged by the national government.

The declaration increased to nine barangays the city's drug-cleared areas. The five others, which got their certificates of declaration in October 2019 are Lumayang, Lanzones, Capisan, Dulian-Upper Pasonanca, and Tigbalabag.

Meanwhile, Salazar vowed to continuously support all efforts to make the city’s 98 villages as drug-free in line with the vision of President Rodrigo Duterte. (PNA)
