SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique -- This capital town is extending relief assistance to the municipality of Libertad, which was hit by Typhoon "Ursula" (Phanfone) last Christmas.

Mayor Elmer Untaran said in an interview Friday the municipal government launched the “Help from the Heart” right after the typhoon struck Libertad last December 25.

They are set to turn over their assistance to Libertad's local government unit on Saturday.

“The personnel of the Office of the SJdB Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO) are now in the process of packing up the relief goods for Libertad,” he said.

The mayor added the assorted goods donated by municipal employees and business establishments would be of help to the people of Libertad.

The MDRRMO was able to gather used clothing, kitchenware, shoes, raincoats, pails, basins and other essentials for the typhoon-hit residents.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Coast Guard vessel embarked from the port here going to the island municipality of Caluya, another badly hit town, to deliver relief goods on Friday morning.

Antique Provincial Information Officer Galileo Magbanua, in an interview, said that based on the data provided by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, the vessel was able to transport 150 duffel bags of shelter kits from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD), and 2,000 food packs worth PHP360 each from the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD).

Antique provincial government is also sending 125 sacks of rice, 100 boxes of noodles, 13 boxes of Milo chocolate drink, 30 boxes of sardines, 25 boxes of corned beef, and 25 boxes of 3-in-1 coffee.

“The Department of Health is also sending medicines for Caluya residents,” Magbanua said.

He said the Antique provincial government is thankful for the assistance of the DSWD, OCD, PCG, Philippine Army and the reservists, MDRRMO of Hamtic, and other volunteers who extended their help in repacking, hauling, and transporting the relief goods for the typhoon residents of Caluya, Libertad, Pandan and Sebaste that suffered from the effect of the typhoon.
