NAVAL, Biliran -- Senator Christopher Lawrence Go will convene on Tuesday the Senate health committee, health and airport officials, and other concerned officials to assess the country’s response to the global spread of the novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV).

"As the chairman of the committee on health in the Senate, I am focused on the case and I want to be updated, as well as the President with the new developments, especially with the safety measures implemented by the health officials," Go said here Thursday afternoon after Health Secretary Francisco Duque III confirmed the country’s first nCoV case.

He said the national government is doing its best to contain the situation and prevent the spread of the virus. Some 40 scanners have been set up in ports of entry nationwide to detect potential carriers.

Go added that foreign affairs officials are in constant communication to assess the situation of almost 40 Filipinos who are in Wuhan City in China who have signified their desire to return to the country.

On Thursday, Duque confirmed that a 38-year-old Chinese female is the first case of the 2019-nCoV in the country.
To date, the DOH has recorded a total of 29 persons under investigation (PUIs) in Metro Manila, Central Visayas, Mimaropa, Eastern Visayas, Northern Mindanao, and Davao.

Of the total number, 23 PUIs have been admitted to hospitals and five have been discharged but are still under strict monitoring. One PUI died of pneumonia, according to health officials. (PNA)
