Families in evacuation centers due to Taal unrest down to 6.8K

MANILA -- The number of families taking shelter at evacuation centers due to the eruption of Taal Volcano last January 12 has declined to 6,830.

In its 6 a.m. update Tuesday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said these families, which are equivalent to 23,915 individuals remain in 152 evacuation centers.

This is slightly lower than 7,155 families from Monday's report.

Meanwhile, the number of families affected by the volcano's eruption is placed at 129,010 which is equivalent to 482,925 individuals residing in Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, and Quezon.

Alert Level 3 remains in effect over Taal. (PNA)
