DAVAO CITY--The city of Mati in Davao Oriental has activated its Incident Management Team (IMT) over the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV), African Swine Fever (ASF), and H5N1 bird flu.

Mayor Michelle Rabat signed Executive Order No. 19 Series of 2020 on Thursday, which stipulates the need to activate the IMT to manage the possible effects of the three highly infectious diseases, the Mati City Information Office (CIO) said Friday.

The IMT is tasked to take the lead in the implementation of the total ban and to set up five checkpoints in the borders of Mati to ensure that the ASF infection would not reach the city.

The CHO, together with the CVO, is also conducting a series of forums in the barangays to educate the public on how to prevent ASF and how to protect themselves against 2019-nCoV and H5N1.

Meanwhile, Dr. Ben Hur Catbagan, CHO head, advised the public against the “virus of disinformation” and avoid the sharing or posting unconfirmed reports about the virus on social media.

Catbagan advised the public not to panic and maintain proper hygiene in their homes and the community. He also discouraged the public from wearing face masks unnecessarily as this could contribute to the growing mass hysteria.

CIO said that as of posting time, Mati remains free from ASF, nCoV, and H5N1.

Mati also implemented a temporary total ban on the entry of swine, hogs, pork, pork-related products, and pork by-products following confirmation of the ASF case in this city on Thursday.

Rabat said that the items covered by the temporary total ban are live hogs, pork meat, frozen boar semen, canned goods from pork meat, other processed pork meat products, and pork siopao or pork siomai products. (PNA)
