BANGKOK -- Thai Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Sunday that a shooting rampage in northeastern Thailand has left 27 people dead, including the gunman, and 57 others injured.
The premier updated the latest death toll in the deadly mass shooting outside a hospital of northeastern city of Nakorn Ratchasima, where a frenzied soldier opened fire at shoppers at a shopping mall late Saturday.
Thai police sources early Sunday said soldiers rescued hundreds of people from a shopping mall late Saturday night as they continued to hunt for a gunman who had holed up inside after the mass shooting.
The gunman, identified as Jakkrapanth Thomma, was holding a number of people as hostages inside the Terminal 21 shopping mall, but police officials later announced by 2 a.m. Sunday local time that all civilians have been safely brought out of the mall.
The gunman fired at civilians along the route to the Terminal 21 shopping mall, which was packed with shoppers celebrating the long weekend.(Xinhua)
