CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao -- Pursuit operations are underway for a group of armed men behind the killing of an Army trooper securing a Muslim thanksgiving party in Datu Blah Sinsuat, Maguindanao, an official said.

Maj. Gen. Diosdado Carreon. Army’s 6th Infantry Division commander said additional troopers were sent to Datu Blah Sinsuat town the past three days to run after the killers of Corporal Jobert Saga, 33, of the 63rd Division Reconnaissance Company (DRC) on February 8.

The soldier was shot on his back while conducting road security for the town's grand “kanduli” (thanksgiving) hosted by the Datu Blah Sinsuat local government in Barangay Pura around noontime.

“He was immediately brought to the Datu Blah Sinsuat District Hospital of Upi but was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician,” Carreon told reporters here Tuesday.

Carreon said the troopers of the 63DRC, backed by the 6th Infantry Battalion, are currently conducting pursuit operations against the perpetrators of the crime believed to be members of a cattle rustling group roaming the area.

"I am extending my deepest condolences to the family left by our slain soldier, who died while doing his mandated task of securing the community from any threats," Carreon said. (PNA)
