MANILA -- A police officer is now facing charges of robbery-extortion after he allegedly mulcted money from a relative of a drug suspect in Taguig City.

In a press briefing on Tuesday, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief, Maj. Gen. Debold Sinas, identified the suspect as Cpl. Hadzmer Amer, who was assigned at the Taguig City station drug enforcement unit.

Based on the complaint, Amer demanded PHP35,000 in exchange for the dropping of the case filed against the complainant's partner, whom Sinas did not identify.

Sinas said an entrapment operation was launched on General Luna Street in Barangay Tuktukan, Taguig against Amer around 11:32 p.m. last Monday.

However, Sinas said Amer had noticed the presence of policemen in the area where he met with the complainant.

He then immediately rode his motorcycle and sped off.

Authorities are tracking down Amer who has yet to report for work and give his side of the story. (PNA)
