BACOLOD CITY -- A total of 14 persons under monitoring (PUMs) for the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) are under home quarantine in Bago City, Negros Occidental as of Tuesday.

A report of the City Health Office (CHO) posted on the city’s official Facebook page showed these PUMs are part of the initial 17, but the three others have already been cleared after completing the required quarantine period.

“To date, all the PUMs do not exhibit any sign or symptom of fever, and respiratory symptoms such as cough sore throat, and difficulty of breathing,” it added.

PUM refers to a person regardless of nationality, race, and age, who does not exhibit any signs and symptoms, but has travel history to other areas of China and/or history of exposure and shall be referred to home quarantine.

Last week, the City Council of Bago passed a resolution, canceling all scheduled events for its 54th Charter Anniversary from February 11 to 19 due to the Covid-19 threat.

Resolution 20-082 cited the Department of Health advisory dated February 7, stating that with the ongoing threat of Covid-19, the public is strongly urged to avoid attending, participating, and organizing events that draw a huge crowd.

“The city government decided to cancel the celebration as they do not want to compromise the health and safety of the residents and visitors,” Mayor Nicholas Yulo earlier said.

On February 19, it will be a non-working day in Bago City in commemoration of its 54th Charter Anniversary, based on Proclamation No. 887 signed by Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea on February 14 upon the authority of President Rodrigo Duterte.

“It is but fitting and proper that the people of the City of Bago be given full opportunity to celebrate and participate in the occasion with appropriate ceremonies,” the proclamation stated. (PNA)
