CAMP SK PENDATUN, Maguindanao -- The Police Regional Office in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (PRO-BARMM) conducted a surprise drug test on all officers based at the regional headquarters here Tuesday.

The surprise drug test was conducted by the Regional Crime Laboratory Office during a command conference. No one was allowed to leave the conference room unless they have undergone the test.

Brig. Gen. Marni Marcos Jr., PRO-BARMM director, said Wednesday the surprise drug test complied with the directive of Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa.

Gamboa issued the order on Monday as part of the intensified and sustained internal cleansing of the PNP.

Marcos, who led his staff and other ranking officials in submitting urine samples to crime lab personnel, said the results of the drug tests would be announced "in a few days".

He said police officers who test positive for illegal drugs would face administrative charges and be subjected to dismissal proceedings.

“This surprise drug-testing of our officers is an effort to further build the trust and confidence of our citizens (in) the PNP,” Marcos said. “Being law enforcers, the PNP is proving that we abide by the law and is serious with its efforts in cleaning its ranks.” (PNA)
