CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY -- Local governments have started implementing heightened measures to prevent the potential spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

At the Misamis Oriental Provincial Capitol here, employees are now required to undergo thermal scanning before entering their respective offices.

Late last week, Governor Yevgeny Vincente Emano also increased the alert level for the Covid-19, ahead of President Rodrigo Duterte's declaration Sunday of a state of public health emergency to boost the government's response against the virus.

Mayor Oscar Moreno also imposed a mandatory body temperature check on the city hall employees, including individuals who are transacting inside the City Hall compound.

An executive order issued by Moreno late last week bars individuals who are found to have unusually high temperatures from entering City Hall premises during the working hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Moreno also asked the public to remain calm and not to engage in panic buying, saying the heightened measures are only meant as preventive courses of action.

Councilor Malou Gaane, chairperson of the Committee on Health, said Monday that individuals transacting at the City Hall who have fever but do not exhibit Covid-19 symptoms will be allowed to proceed to conduct business provided they wear a mask.

Those who exhibit Covid-19 symptoms, Gaane said, will be barred from conducting business and will be referred to the Health Emergency Management (HEMS) of the City Health Office for further verification. (PNA)
