MANILA – As the country celebrates National Women's Month, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief-of-Staff, Gen. Felimon Santos Jr., said the military is always supportive of policies and programs that promote women empowerment.
"The AFP, as an organization, not only recognizes the distinct contribution of women but also continues to pursue policies and programs that will help promote women empowerment, both to the organization and to the country as a whole," Santos said in a statement Tuesday.
The AFP has 2,414 female commissioned officers and 7,843 enlisted personnel.
He noted that the AFP is a strong advocate of women's rights and called on every Filipino to work together in making change work for women and in providing equal rights to all genders.
"Let us all cultivate a space where women are confident to build on their potentials, enhance their skills, and make their own choices – without being disrespected or unfairly treated by the society," Santos said. (PNA)
