MANILA – The Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) on Wednesday issued medical guidelines for its employees and athletes particularly those still billeted at the PhilSports complex in Pasig City.

The PSC’s Medical Scientific Athlete Services (MSAS) unit came out with the guidelines in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s issuance of Proclamation 929 placing the country under a state of calamity for six months and Proclamation 922 declaring a state of public health emergency throughout the country due to the coronavirus disease, known as Covid-19.

The guidelines include limited person-to-person interaction via social distancing, strict home quarantine observation, and suspension of non-essential travel outside the complex.

There are over 30 athletes and coaches staying at the PSC dormitories in PhilSports Complex while medical personnel and a skeletal force taking care of basic operations like security, meals and maintenance report daily to service the athletes.

“Despite the challenges, we will do our best to assist those within our premises” PSC Chairman William Ramirez said.

In the medical advisory, all athletes and coaches staying at the PhilSports dormitories are strictly advised to interact one to two meters apart. Anybody who has a recent history of travel regardless of origin is encouraged to wear a mask, provided by the agency’s medical unit.

PSC Chief of Staff Marc Velasco said they have asked everyone to make an effort to keep their activities confined within their respective rooms and nutrition hall.

The advisory also gave instructions on what athletes coming in from overseas or those staying at home can do should they suspect infection.

Regular temperature checks are being done to those billeted at the dormitories, as well as at the nutrition hall.

“We advise our athletes to stay hydrated and well-nourished with adequate sleep to boost your immune system,” Velasco said in a statement. (PR)
