DARAGA, Albay – As the nation intensifies the fight against the new coronavirus disease (Covid-19), private companies here are showing their gratitude to the front liners by giving free water and food to health workers and police officers here and other parts of Bicol.
Daraga Mayor Victor Perete, in an interview on Thursday, said fast food chain Jollibee will be distributing free food packs to all personnel assigned in the Covid-19 checkpoints here starting, Friday, March 20.
Perete said a Jollibee representative confirmed to him that personnel assigned at the municipal health office, emergency response services and at the checkpoints will receive food rations.
“We appreciate the gesture of Jollibee local management to support our frontline personnel on duty against Covid-19. According to the representative of Jollibee in Daraga, they already proposed for daily provision of food packs to our personnel,” Perete said.
Currently, Task Forces Covid-19 and African swine fever are in place in Barangays Villahermosa (boundary of Albay and Sorsogon provinces), Tabon-Tabon, Bascaran and Salvacion (boundary of Daraga and Camalig towns) here.
The "no dine-in" policy in all restaurants, food chains and “karenderia” or eateries remain in effect in the municipality of Daraga in order to prevent Covid-19 contagion.
“Our deepest appreciation to the management of Jollibee,” Perete said.
Meanwhile, SM Malls in Bicol will be supplying free bottled mineral water to health and police front line workers involved in the campaign against the spread of Covid-19 in the region.
Claire Hariri, SM-Legazpi public relations officer, said in an interview that the company initially turned over on Thursday 10 boxes, each containing 35 bottles of water, to the Philippine National Police (PNP) in Bicol intended to be given to policemen manning various checkpoints in the region.
“Another batch of 10 boxes of bottled water (were sent) to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hospital (BRTTH) for health personnel manning the hospital quarantine facility,” she said.
Hariri said the supply of free bottled water is in line with the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of SM to help people in areas confronted with social and health concerns.
She said their CSR program is also being implemented in other parts of Bicol as well as in Calabarzon region. (PNA)
