DUMAGUETE CITY – A total of 245 persons in Negros Oriental have shown flu-like symptoms associated with the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19), the Provincial Health Office (PHO) reported on Thursday.

The PHO said the province has three persons have severe acute respiratory infection (SARI), two with moderate acute respiratory infection (MARI), and 240 with mild influenza-like illness (ILI).

Of the SARIs, only two are hospitalized while the third, from nearby Valencia town, is not confined but “under persistent monitoring” after patient’s health improved, Bimbo Miraflor, Capitol Public Information Officer, said on Friday.

As to the MARIs, Miraflor said it is up their respective local government units (LGU) to decide through whether they will be admitted to the hospital for further treatment.

ILIs, on the other hand, are under home quarantine but under constant monitoring, he said.

Based on PHO’s report, Amlan town topped the list of these cases at 44.

Other cases are as follows: Ayungon, 18; Basay, 7; Bayawan City, 4; Bindoy 7; Canlaon City, 31; Dauin, 4; Dumaguete City, 2; Guihulngan, 11; Jimalalud, 18; La Libertad, 4; Mabinay, 1; Manjuyod, 14; Pamplona, 10; Siaton, 4; Sibulan, 5; Sta. Catalina, 1; Tanjay City, 7; Tayasan, 9; Valencia, 2; Vallehermoso, 22; Zamboanguita, 12; and listed at the PHO, 22.

Miraflor said the PHO adopted the classifications due to general community quarantine status.

Meanwhile, the province also has 2,507 asymptomatic persons identified and listed as under close monitoring and recommended for home quarantine for having a history of travel outside of the province, the report showed.

Miraflor said these persons were traced via locator forms that they filled out upon arrival here.

As of Friday, there are no confirmed positive Covid-19 cases in Negros Oriental.

The province is under a state of calamity since Gov. Roel Degamo’s declaration early this week to contain the spread of the virus at the community level. (PNA)
