ZAMBOANGA CITY – The local government here has readied some 450 tons of rice to be distributed to families of daily wage earners and drivers displaced by the enhanced community quarantine against the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19).

Land transportation and works in private and public office, except for frontliners, have been suspended as the Task Force Covid-19 imposed the enhanced community quarantine effective 1 a.m. Friday.

The quarantine is coupled with the imposition of eight-hour curfew from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.

Sheila Covarrubias, city information officer, said Saturday the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) is preparing food packs to be distributed to the beneficiaries.

Covarrubias said each food pack contains three kilos of rice, three tins of sardines, three tins of corned beef, three packs of noodles, and six sachets of coffee.

Covarrubias said initially the CSWDO target to provide food packs to some 150,000 families of daily wage earners, drivers, and indigents.

She said the identification of beneficiaries is undertaken by the Tricycle Adjudication Board (TAB) and the City Administrator’s Office in collaboration with the Office of the Mayor.

“The list of beneficiaries is still being finalized to ensure everyone will get their share,” she said.

Social distancing and other precautionary measures will be strictly observed during the distribution of the food pack by the CSWDO in the different barangays. (PNA)
