Zambo anti-drug ops net 4 amid quarantine

ZAMBOANGA CITY -- Four individuals were arrested as the anti-drug operations continue here in the region, an official announced Tuesday.

This came as Brig. Gen. Froilan Quidilla, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) director ordered the police to continue the anti-drug campaign amid the imposition of quarantine to prevent the entry of the coronavirus 2019 (Covid-19) here in Region 9.

Maj. Helen Galvez, Police Regional Office-9 (PRO-9) information officer, identified the arrested suspects as Edwin Hugo, 56; Givani Ricablanca, 46; Arnold Bernabe, 40; and Junior Abdullah, 51.

Galvez said Hugo was arrested in possession of some PHP5,000 worth of suspected shabu and PHP200 marked money in a buy-bust operation around 5:55 p.m. Monday in Barangay Camino Nuevo, this city.

Galvez said that Ricablanca, a government employee, was arrested in a buy-bust operation around 10:50 a.m. Monday in Purok Mahogany, Barangay F.L. Peña, Kabasalan, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Ricablanca, who works as a secretary at the mayor’s office of Kabasalan, yielded some PHP5,000 worth of suspected shabu and PHP500 marked money, police said.

Meanwhile, police said Bernabe yielded some PHP2,500 worth of suspected shabu and PHP500 marked Monday when arrested in a buy-bust operation around 5:30 p.m. Monday in Barangay Marketsite, Isabela City, Basilan.

On the other hand, Galvez said Abdullah was arrested by joint police and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency operatives in a buy-bust operation around 6:40 p.m. Monday in Barangay Magdaup, Ipil, Zamboanga Sibugay.

Abdullah yielded some PHP16,000 worth of suspected shabu and PHP500 marked money, she said.

Galvez said the suspects were detained while charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 will be filed against them. (PNA)
