LAOAG CITY – Sacks of rice and food packs are being distributed to various towns and cities in Ilocos Norte to ensure that the marginalized workers have enough food to eat during the month-long enhanced community quarantine.
Targeting 70,000 families of low-income drivers, street vendors, farmers and fisherfolk, among others, the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office along with the Sustainable Development Council started to distribute relief goods on Tuesday in the towns of Adams, Dumalneg, Pagudpud, Bangui, Burgos, Currimao, Pinili, Paoay and Nueva Era.
“Hopefully within this week, we will be able to distribute all the reliefs to the remaining LGUs so they could also immediately deliver it down to their respective Barangays,” said provincial social welfare officer Corazon Lilian Rin.
Aside from giving rice and grocery items, the Ilocos Norte government is also planning to buy the local products of farmers here to be added to the relief items.
Meanwhile, instead of letting tomatoes rot in the fields, some young farmers in Barangay Sta. Rosa, Laoag City have begun the distribution of free tomatoes to all the households in their barangay. (PNA)
