In a report, Col. Arnold Santiago, Maguindanao provincial police chief, said the local police received a call from Dawamato village chief from Jainudin Madidis requesting assistance involving three men roaming around Barangay Damawato past 9 p.m. in apparent violation of the curfew hours.

“The Datu Paglas police immediately responded to the tip, sending a team of policemen to the area,” Santiago said.

However, as the policemen approached the village, shots rang from the side of the curfew violators that sparked a brief exchange of gunfire, resulting in the wounding of Corporal Yhamier Sablana who was hit on his right shoulder.

The police patrol vehicle was also hit by bullets.

The suspects, identified by locals as Ting, Gusa, and Henry, all surnamed Gumama managed to escape.

Pursuit operations against the suspects are ongoing as of posting time, Santiago said.
