DAVAO CITY -- Two Mati City, Davao Oriental residents, who were the first patients to have tested positive for 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) a week ago, are now cleared of the virus.

Dr. Ben Hur Catbagan Jr., Mati Incident Management Team (IMT) Covid-19 commander, said the recovery of the two patients was confirmed a week after their confirmatory test results came out.

In a statement on Friday, Catbagan said the two patients traveled to Metro Manila and returned via Davao City on March 7 onboard Manila-Davao PAL flight.

On March 10, one of the patients started to get ill and had a checkup at a hospital here four days later.

“After a repeat swab on PH1514 and PH1516, the two have already tested negative. This means that the two can now be released from the Davao Regional Medical Center in Tagum City, Davao del Norte where they are admitted for the past week now,” Catbagan said.

Despite being negative from the virus, Catbagan said the two will be under strict home quarantine for another 14 days in keeping with the protocols of the Department of Health (DOH).

Catbagan thanked the positive patients for their cooperation with the health authorities in controlling the spread of the infection within their family and contacts.

Meanwhile, he said Patient 3 was also in stable condition as of Friday and is still under home quarantine for more than two weeks now since she has been asymptomatic.

Mayor Michelle Rabat thanked the DRMC for taking care of the Mati patients as well as the Barangay Health Emergency Response Teams (BHERT) for their continued service. (PNA)
