BACOLOD CITY – A resident of this city was arrested by the police for possessing a sachet of suspected shabu in a checkpoint in Barangay Sum-ag on Monday.

The suspect was identified as Jeffrey Rodrigo, 43, a resident of Purok Mambulok Barangay 10.

Lt. Jonito Pastrana, chief of Police Station 9, said the suspect was seen by Patrolman Alexis de Jaime at about 6:30 a.m., throwing away something as he was approaching the checkpoint riding a motorcycle.

When the policeman flagged him down, Rodrigo failed to present a home quarantine pass, a requirement for travel of residents while the City of Bacolod is under an enhanced community quarantine due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) threat.

De Jaime checked the item thrown by the suspect and found that it was a sachet of suspected shabu weighing 5 grams with an estimated street value of PHP55,000.

The suspect also yielded an improvised tooter and cash amounting to PHP1,420.

Rodrigo, who is detained at the custodial facility of Police Station 9, is facing charges for violation of Section 11 (possession of dangerous drugs) and Section 12 (possession of paraphernalia of dangerous drugs) of Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Drugs Act of 2002. (PNA)
