BUTUAN CITY – The Land Transportation Office in Caraga Region (LTO-13) has provided free transportation services to the front-liners that help to contain the spread of the 2019 coronavirus disease (Covid-19) in the region.

Urbano Maglines, Jr., the chief of enforcement division and spokesperson of LTO-13, told reporters on Wednesday (April 8) that the provision of free rides to front-liners started Monday.

“The move is in response to the need of our front-liners, especially the health workers, to be ferried to hospitals and medical facilities here in Butuan City and other parts of the region,” Maglines said.

Three vehicles from DOTr-13 will ferry medical staff of government hospitals that are taking care of patients under investigation (PUIs) in the area, he added.

“We also assigned one driver and one staff in every vehicle. Our staff is also provided with protective equipment for them to be safe while performing their duties,” Maglines said.

Earlier this month, the Department of Public Works and Highways in Caraga (DPWH-13) also provided three vehicles to provide a free ride to health workers and other front-liners.

“We specifically assigned a vehicle for our medical personnel at the Butuan Medical Center (BMC). Another vehicle is also assigned by the LTO District Office in Tandag City for the health workers of Adela Serra Ty Memorial Medical Center in Tandag City, Maglines said.

Maglines also bared that Department of Transportation Caraga Region (DOTr-13) OIC Director Nordy Plaza has already secured the commitment of the management of Bachelor Express here to provide a bus in case the transportation demand of the front-liners increases.

“We will provide for the honorarium of the driver and the fuel. Any time, we can utilize one unit of bus from the company,” he said. (PNA)
