BAGUIO CITY – Two more coronavirus disease (Covid-19) patients were discharged from a hospital here on Tuesday, bringing the total recoveries to seven with only six still confined.

During a virtual presser, Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) chief, Dr. Ricardo Runez Jr. said a 31-year-old male resident of Manila and a 49-year-old local who frequents Manila were sent home.

They were discharged after final tests prove they are free of the virus.

The oldest Covid-19 patient was discharged on April 3, a 73-year-old woman. Earlier a 55-year old woman was also discharged after the first three aged 52, 61 and 70.

Those still confined are the 23-year-old male from Manila, the 52-year-old health worker Joel Junsay who revealed on social media that he contracted the disease; spouses Enrique and Jaysay Bactad of Manila, both 67, the 59-year-old; former US serviceman Rafael Serrano; and a 46-year-old male.

Junsay, the Bactad couple and Serrano agreed to reveal their identity heeding Mayor Benjamin Magalong’s request so contact tracing can be maximized as an intervention to arrest the spread of the virus by possible carriers.

Meanwhile, Runez and Department of Health for Cordillera Administrative Region (DOH-CAR) officer in charge Dr. Amelita Pangilinan hope for the recovery of Covid-19 patients still confined in local hospitals as Baguio continues to record no new cases for the ninth straight day on Monday.

Baguio is a level two situation after registering 14 cases. Three each were recorded in Benguet and Abra, with two of the latter province’s cases confined at the BGHMC. Pangilinan said that the nine-day respite is a good sign but Baguio must remain on its toes since transmission is yet prevalent especially in Metro Manila.

“Compared with the national picture where Covid-19 cases are still on the rise with deaths, (it is when) it goes down that we can be confident of saying that there is already a flattening of the curve,” Pangilinan said. (PNA)
