CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – A group of Filipino-Chinese businessmen donated 20,000 surgical face masks and 50 sacks of rice to the city government here on Wednesday afternoon.

Mayor Oscar Moreno said the sacks of rice donated by the Philippine Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI) would be repacked and be given to the city’s residents.

The face masks, Moreno said, will be distributed to medical personnel and other workers who are on the front line in the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

“We will turn over the face masks to Dr. William Bernardo of (the City Health Office],” he said.

Moreno said the donated face masks will be distributed to local health workers, personnel of the city government-run JR Borja General Hospital, police officers, city disaster response teams, and barangay health volunteers.

He noted that aside from the business sector, various entities and institutions have also donated personal protective equipment and thermal scanners to the local government.

“The most important thing is (that) the community is taking part in this war against the coronavirus,” Moreno said. (PNA)
