MANILA – The Department of Science and Technology (DOST) urged the public to download its own mobile app to remain updated about the agency's programs and services, as well as updates on the department's efforts in the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).
In a message to the Philippine News Agency (PNA) on Monday, DOST Secretary Fortunato dela Peña said the mobile application is downloadable in Android phones via Google Play.
The DOST mobile app, he said, contains information on research and development, call for research proposals, and technologies that are ready for production, among others.
"There is a special section for (our) Covid-19 efforts," he added.
These efforts include the funding of the locally-developed Covid-19 test kits; study on how virgin coconut oil may help fight Covid-19; the use of RxBox telehealth device at the Philippine General Hospital; production of face shields and reusable face masks; and the co-development of the RapidPass system, which enables front-liners to pass the checkpoints faster by just scanning their QR codes.
Dela Peña said the DOST also started producing ventilators.
He emphasized that through this app, the DOST wants the public to see how Filipino inventors and researchers contribute to society. (PNA)
